Rat Hygiene ~ Tempe

I guess when you’re homeless, toothbrushes are out of your price range. The little critter just really loves to chew on teeth, according to this dude chilling on Mill Avenue.

UPDATE: African Lion Tacos to be served in Tucson

Update: Lion meat tacos have been taken off the menu following an internet backlash against Boca Tacos.

Thanks to lataco.com for bringing this to our attention. Boca Tacos in Tucson has announced that it will be serving African lion tacos in february. Crazy, right?! It’s not the first time in Arizona. A restaurant in Mesa, il Vinaio, served lion tacos this past summer in celebration of the World Cup.

In the six months since it launched Exotic Taco Wednesdays, Boca Tacos y Tequila has served up python, alligator, elk, kangaroo and rattlesnake. Frog legs, turtle, duck and Rocky Mountain oysters have also made appearances.
“We’ve done just about anything we can get our hands on,” said owner Bryan Mazon. “Every Wednesday we do something a little bit different.” Last week he announced on Boca’s Facebook page that the UA-area taco shop was accepting prepaid orders for African lion, to be served on Feb. 16. Orders must be placed by 3 p.m. Feb. 7.

The African lions are not an endangered species, USDA certified and, therefore, completely legal. The tacos will cost $8.75 each and the restaurant expects to sell out.

Live Crude Girls ~ Just Blaze

Here’s a few pieces that were up at Steve Caballero‘s solo exhibit, Live Crude Girls, at Just Blaze Art Supply & Gallery on January 8th. You may recognize his stuff from the Organic Bananas for Sale post made a while back here on Phoenix Taco. Check out more pieces from his show after the jump!

The Fixx Grand Opening ~ Tempe

I think we can all agree that Tempe is lacking in reliable music venues that put on frequent local decent shows. Well, that is about to change with The Fixx, a new coffee shop located at Mill & 7th, which is not to be confused with that grungy old venue that used to be on Grand. The buzz is that The Fixx will host free shows every Saturday in association with the Tempe Starving Artist, starting with the grand opening on January 29th. Make sure to give this place some love people, in spite of all the shitty bars and chain restaurants that have taken over Mill Avenue.
